This project is a partnered with the Tacoma Land Trust to retrofit five existing elementary school yards with new playgrounds, fields and community gardens. The sites are in areas where access to public spaces is limited. Instead of buying new land to create parks, this project took existing public spaces, in this case elementary schools, to create mini parks at each school. This has a mutual benefit as the students now have access to upgraded playgrounds, fields and gardens while also providing the neighborhood a mini park open to the public when school is not in session.
