ASUW Shell House

Owner: University of Washington

Client: Sellen + Mithun

The ASUW Shell House is a progressive design build project located on Union Bay on the UW Seattle Campus.  This shoreside historical renovation site has been home to the Coast Salish People, WWI Aviators and the legendary 1936 Olympic Gold winning UW rowing team that inspired “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown.  More recently the site has been a community hub for water recreation.  The proposed adaptive reuse will provide a student and community gathering space and living museum that celebrates and commemorates the history of the building and of UW rowing.  Mayfly is providing full site civil engineering services.  Design includes accessible routes of travel, utilities, emergency access, and onsite stormwater management on this tight shoreline site.

This $20 million renovation project has an estimated opening date in 2026.
