Preliminary Engineering Study:  Fountain Filter Backwash Discharge

Owner & Client: Seattle Parks and Recreation

Mayfly conducted analysis of existing systems and then proposed solutions that would resolve the filter backwash violations for three fountains at Jim Ellis Freeway Park and the Cal Anderson Park Fountain. Proposed solutions were designed to meet the performance standards of NPDES, WSDOE and City of Seattle stormwater requirements for discharge of filter backwash and fountain drain water systems. Mayfly consulted with City staff to evaluate possible optional changes in additional to structural solutions.  Interim fountain backwash operation with temporary connections was designed to maintain fountain operation until permanent system modifications could be achieved.
