South Lake Union Discovery Center, Seattle, WA

Completed in 2005, this award winning sales center was developed to showcase both real estate and Low Impact Design (LID) technologies in a rapidly developing neighborhood.  Disconnected downspouts splash rain water into rain gardens, curb cuts drain surface flow to linear bioretention edges and pervious pavers slow down stormwater on its way to the combined sewer system.  In addition to on site development, Street Improvement Plans were designed and permitted for the adjacent right of way improvements.  This innovative LID site design replaced the requirement for a conventional underwater storm detention tank with natural stormwater treatment systems.
