Cascade Playground, Seattle WA

Owner: Seattle Parks and Recreation

Client: The Berger Partnership

Renovated Cascade Park was previously barricaded and hidden behind a 12 foot tall retaining wall.  This once bland playground was transformed into a welcoming and open site complete with an urban forest, meandering creek, wooden footbridge, and multiple play areas.  The creek replaces an underground pipe with a vibrant site feature that conveys site stormwater in rainy weather and allows for natural play in sunny weather.  Historical site features were preserved while existing features were salvaged and reused on site.  Robin provided the civil engineering project management, design, and documentation and construction administration.

This project was the winner of the 2005 WA State ACEC Gold Award for Social, Economic, and Sustainable Design Considerations.
